NFC check-in
An NFC check-in is a way to check in with a single tap on an NFC tag — without opening or unlocking the app. NFC (Near Field Communication) is the wireless technology your phone also uses for contactless payment. A tag placed in a fixed spot becomes the fastest way to send a sign of life.
An NFC tag is a small, battery-free sticker you can program and place anywhere — by the front door, on the coffee machine, on the bedside lamp. Hold your phone to it briefly and it opens a stored link and runs the action you set up.
For a safety net this is handy, because it turns the check-in into a casual everyday gesture: a tap as you leave or come home, over your first coffee, or before bed. The less effort a check-in takes, the more reliably you'll do it — and the fewer false alarms there are.
How Still OK does it
In Still OK the NFC check-in works through a deep link: you write any NFC tag with the address still-ok.com/checkin. Tap your phone to it and Still OK opens and checks you in automatically. You don't need a special tag — any standard NFC sticker will do. The NFC check-in is included in the free version.
Tobias, 37, keeps forgetting his evening check-in after a long day. He sticks an NFC tag next to the hallway light switch. Now, coming home, he just holds his phone to it — a beep, done. The check-in has become part of arriving home, not one more thing on a to-do list.
